One of the most puzzling historical occurrences in the One Piece story is the God Valley Incident. The incident focuses on the downfall of the Rocks Pirates, a group that the Navy and the Roger Pirates had to work together to stop. It’s an interesting period because Monkey D. Garp and Gol D. Roger, two of the most well-known seafarers at the time, collaborate to defeat a foe who was too powerful for each of them to defeat alone. The World Government was forced to destroy the fight’s physical location in order to obliterate it from history due to the evil that this crew was willing to carry out. As a result, the conflict and everything related to it continue to be a mystery.
Because of this, Chapter 1095’s examination of the God Valley incident is so fascinating. St. Jaygarcia Saturn, St. Figarland Garling, Bartholomew Kuma, and Emporio Ivankov—characters no one knew were in God Valley when the Incident occurred—are among those featured in this preview. Their now verified presence heightens the mystery surrounding the Incident and may shed light on what transpired on that critical day.
What Do Fans Know About God Valley?
The best discussion of God Valley can be found in Chapter 957, “Ultimate.” Vice Admiral Garp and the Marines engaged in combat with the Rocks Pirates, who were led by Rocks D. Xebec, 38 years ago. To stop this ambitious pirate king who wanted to rule the entire world, the Roger Pirates joined the Marines. Garp assumed responsibility for beating Xebec after it was revealed that the Roger Pirates were involved and assumed the title of Marine Hero. The island vanished from the map completely after the God Valley Incident. Fans hypothesised that the World Government used a covert Ancient Weapon to destroy the island, matching what they had done to Lulusia in Chapter 1060, “Luffy’s Dream.”
Few people now are familiar with Xebec, which is also probably why the World Government sought to ignore any reference of him. Garp dislikes discussing the God Valley Incident because it involves working with Gold Roger and defending Celestial Dragons. He resisted being promoted to Admiral because he dislikes having to answer to them. In any case, Xebec had to be their Hero as well because his schemes put them in risk. Additionally, St. Figarland Garling positioned himself as God Valley’s “champion” (王者, oja). This was initially rendered incorrectly as “ruler” in Chapter 1086 of “The Five Elders,” which caused a lot of confusion among American fans.
Red-Haired Shanks, a relative of his, was discovered in the same location as a baby in a treasure box gathered by the Roger Pirates. Fans have come to the conclusion that these two are father and son based on this and the young Garling’s similarity to the Emperor. The involvement of Big Mom and Kaido on this day is another peculiarity. The King of the Beasts was reminded by Big Mom that she had given him his Devil Fruit on the day that Rocks was killed in Chapter 999, “The Sake I Brewed to Drink With You.” It is uncertain how she obtained the Fruit or whether it is connected to the Incident, but given that they occurred on the same day, it is most likely related.
What Does Chapter 1095 Confirm about God Valley?
The Celestial Dragons were on the island, according to Chapter 1095, to hunt the residents and a few slaves for entertainment. The island and its resources could be claimed in the name of the World Government once the native population had been wiped out. One such slave who took part in the Native Hunting Competition was Kuma. Most likely, the Celestial Dragons were attacked by the Rocks Pirates during (or right after) their match. Future Warlord must have narrowly escaped the crossfire and survived.
Kuma tries to flee in one memorable moment, but his fellow slaves catch him for their owners. They were aware that if they let Kuma escape, they would be blamed for his mistreatment and executed. This moment was earlier displayed while Bonney was perusing her father’s recollections in Chapter 1074, “MK. III.”
Kuma also met Emporio Ivankov and his sister Ginny during this incident. Later on, the two lads would enlist in Monkey D. Dragon’s Revolutionary Army. This meeting would indicate that Dragon participated in the God Valley Incident in some way as well, which would be another excuse to conceal it.
The God Valley Native Hunting Competition was most likely won by St. Figarland Garling, who therefore became known as the island’s best hunter. Either that, or he was somehow connected to the God Valley Incident. He ought to have had enough strength as a Holy Knight to engage the battle and survive unhurt. But given how much credit Garp got for defeating Xebec, it was probably not much of a Celestial Dragon’s doing.
Six miniature treasure chests were displayed on one panel, as some observant viewers noted. It has been noted that the size of these chests is comparable to the container used to hold Luffy’s Gum-Gum Fruit. One of these containers might contain Kaido’s future Devil Fruit, which the Celestial Dragons most likely did not manage to obtain.
What Could Have Happened at God Valley?
One could use what is now known about God Valley to determine how the Incident played out. It probably began at the conclusion of the Native Hunting Competition of the Celestial Dragons. By then, Garling would have established an unquestionable lead (after overturning his 10,000-point disadvantage), and Kuma and Ivankov would be among the final survivors. Being alive at this moment while Garling is off hunting would indicate how great of an impact Ivankov’s remarks from the end of Chapter 1095 had on Kuma. Before the Celestial Dragons could finish hunting their prey, the Rocks Pirates most likely stormed the island.
Kuma, Ivankov, and possibly Ginny might have left the island during the ensuing commotion instead of being pushed back into the hands of their captors. The flashback in Chapter 1095 would probably cease at this point (it’s too early to reveal everything), but more inferences can be drawn from what is known. If the Marines weren’t already defending the island from intruders, they were probably fast to jump in. The Rocks Pirates might have managed to get past their defences even if they were doing the first option. Garp would then step in to take a shot at the crew at this moment.
It’s possible that a young dragon (who would have been 17 at the time) was also on God Valley with the Marines. Instead of rounding them up for the World Nobles as he was intended to, he could have been the one who assisted slaves like Kuma and Ivankov in escaping; it would have been a fated encounter with grave repercussions. The breach between him and his father, Garp, which would ultimately be attributed to this personal deed, would be the first of many indications of his dissatisfaction with the prevailing political structure. The Roger and Rocks pirates who were still alive after the battle may have seized whatever loot was still on the island while they had the chance.
Gold Shanks may have been discovered by Roger’s crew after the Celestial Dragons abruptly abandoned him. The Azure Dragon fruit that was left in one of the chests could have been stolen by Charlotte Linlin in a similar manner. Ivankov and Kuma might have even stolen their future Devil Fruits. Kuma’s involvement in whatever occurred in God Valley was probably limited. He can only survive to tell the tale as a young slave in a fight between Marines and the toughest pirates. Due to this, it is also unlikely that he had a clear view of Xebec or any of the other main fighters. It could be necessary to discuss the battle’s events and aftermath at a later date. However, it’s possible that Oda will reveal more information than the audience anticipated.
