Fans of One Piece believe that the new opening music for Vivi is a sneak peek at a new Devil Fruit, indicating a character death that hasn’t even been shown in the manga yet.

Many who love One Piece believe that the new opening tune for the “Egghead” arc foreshadows a character death that hasn’t even happened in the manga: a new Devil Fruit for Vivi.

The latest One Piece Episode 1089, titled “Entering a New Chapter! Luffy and Sabo’s Paths!” revealed the new opening song “Assu!” by Hiroshi Kitadani. Kitadani also sang the very first One Piece opening song, “We are!” The new video contains stunning and vibrant visuals, teasers for upcoming fights and notably, for many fans, a shot of Vivi running into a hole in the wall. With this cut transitioning into Bonney’s interaction with Kuma’s memories, many suspect that she will be inheriting Kuma’s Paw Paw Fruit.

Because of Alabasta’s deep regard for cats, One Piece enthusiasts have long believed that Vivi is the recipient of the Paw Paw fruit. She would be able to stand with the Straw Hats thanks to the fruit, which would represent Kuma’s will being inherited by someone who also wants to free the world. Kuma is still alive as of One Piece Chapter 1103—though not by much—and shows up just in time to save Bonney. Fans will still have to wait until January 21, 2024, to find out Kuma’s destiny and Vivi’s next move in One Piece Chapter 1104, which will be released in two weeks.

The series’ 26th opener, “Assu!” was overseen by the highly regarded Megumi Ishitani, with Keisuke Mori serving as the primary animator. According to Kitadani on X, the title conveys a greeting, “earth” or “tomorrow.” One of Ishitani’s prior directing credits is Episode 1015, which was widely praised when it was first released. She adds she’s excited to watch what WIT Studio will do with its next remake of The One Piece, even as she continues to define the One Piece anime with her own creative approach.

Crunchyroll streams the current anime, so fans may listen to the new theme song and watch the One Piece anime. It gives the following description of the series: “Monkey D. Luffy is determined to become the pirate king, and he won’t allow anything or anyone get in his way. This captain won’t let up until he has taken possession of the greatest treasure on Earth—the fabled One Piece—with a course set towards the perilous waters of the Grand Line and beyond.”
