Top 10 anime

Four years have passed since the conclusion of Game of Thrones, but fans can relive the past with these anime series that are similar to it.

Fantasy literature reached new heights thanks to George R. R. Martin’s Game of Thrones. One of the best fantasy television series ever produced is Game of Thrones because of its emphasis on the lore, political conflicts, betrayal, gory deaths, and surprise plot twists. The audience is constantly seeking to relive the experience through other comparable stories, even if the Dragon Saga has come to an end and caused the fanbase to split into extremes.

One form of media that can capture the same fantasy atmosphere and heart-pounding action scenes as shown in Game of Thrones is anime. These anime series not only share many similarities with the well-regarded TV show but also excel it in many respects.

10. Kingdom (2012)

Kingdom wins over themes of conflict, death, and politics. It is a historical drama similar to Game of Thrones that centres on the journey of a young orphan boy who aspires to become the Great General of the Heavens. The ongoing war in China, however, proves to be a significant roadblock for Xin Li.

Like Game of Thrones, Kingdom expertly exploits the devastation of battle and depends on the fortitude of underdog heroes who decide the fate of the entire nation. This epic tale is ideal for comprehending the ongoing fight for dominance, which was one of the key themes of Game of Thrones, even though the show lacks dragons and White Walkers.

9. Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit (2008)

One of the most lauded components of Game of Thrones is its strong female lead, and Moribito also has one. The TV show’s plot revolved around a fantastical setting where strong women controlled the destiny of the region. A spear-wielding woman named Balsa is travelling to Moribito to make amends for the lives she has taken in the past.

Balsa meets Prince Chagum along the road, whom she subsequently makes his bodyguard after saving him from being killed by his own father. In Game of Thrones, betrayal from within the Houses and the elimination of potential heirs to the throne were commonplace. Blood wasn’t a factor in the struggle for the crown, and Moribito brilliantly develops this idea.

8. Burn the Witch (2020)

Although Burn the Witch doesn’t have a strictly mediaeval setting, it does include a lot of strong dragons. The plot takes place in a fantastical world with a mirror dimension, where popular idol girls in “Front London” are actually “Witches” who kill creatures in “Reverse London.”

These women were hired by a certain group, and their job is to maintain order. Burn the Witch’s usage of dragons and other fantastical animals will bring back memories for fans even though it may not closely reflect the political and strategic aspects of Game of Thrones.

7. Tower of God (2020)

GoT is renowned for including “special events” that completely change the course of the narrative, just as Ned Stark’s death did at the start of the first season. The opening scene of Tower of God, which would later influence the rest of the tale, similarly puts the storyline in motion. In the fictitious universe of Tower of God, a “Tower” selects people to enter it in order to fulfil their greatest aspirations.

Twenty-Fifth Bam is a young man who spent all of his life in a dark cave. But when he forcibly enters the Tower, he upends the fundamental fabric of his universe. Like GoT, ToG has an exciting plot, and the main character is similar to Daenerys Targaryen in that she never saw the light of day.

6. Yona of the Dawn (2014)

The narrative of Daenerys in Yona of the Dawn is arguably the only anime that closely mirrors Game of Thrones. Yona’s lifelong love and a close relative who plotted a coup against her father, the monarch, were the ones who sent her into exile. Yona fled the realm with only Hak, her childhood companion and guardian, in pursuit of the fabled dragons and her stolen possessions.

Yona, like Daenerys, had to learn the hard way that she already possessed the power and that seeking revenge is never simple. Politics, betrayal, magic, and a tonne of dragons are all there in Yona of the Dawn.

5. Attack on Titan (2015)

Before all the politics, Game of Thrones was originally about enormous walls keeping monsters out. Dark fantasy anime Attack on Titan defies expectations in terms of violence and political subtext. Attack on Titan is full of narrative twists and significant revelations that only made sense towards the end of the final seasons, just like all the big secrets and plotlines linked towards the end of the television series.

Another reason why GoT is so well-liked is because it dared to kill off the key characters, a problem that also affects AoT. Many of the characters in AoT and the grim aspects of the plot will be familiar to Game of Thrones fans, but the only thing the fans certainly wouldn’t want from the anime is a disappointing conclusion.

4. Vinland Saga (2019)

The concepts of the Vinland Saga are similar to what Game of Thrones so expertly conveyed to the viewers, but they are also based on historical events and data centred on Thord Horsehead. It would be a nostalgic experience for Game of Thrones fans to see this anime because Vinland Saga is a historical drama that features bloody action with sword combat and epic battle sequences.

If Arya Stark were a male, the Vinland Saga could be considered an anime adaptation of her saga. In the anime, a teenage warrior named Thorfinn seeks retribution from the person who murdered his father. The main distinction is that in addition to her father’s murderers, Arya Stark had a long list of adversaries she wished to vanquish.

3. Berserk (1997)

Fans of Game of Thrones can empathise with Berserk’s cruelty, mediaeval backdrop, violence, and political intricacies. Political scheming is a major element in the cult classic anime, which is a recurring one in Game of Thrones. The highlights of Game of Thrones’ tale were retribution and betrayal, and fans will find plenty of that in Berserk. This is a brutal and sinister tale about a man who sets out to exact revenge on a person he once trusted.

Guts, the main character, goes on a rampage with his enormous blade to exact revenge on the person who abandoned Guts and his men to be sacrificed in exchange for obtaining godly abilities. A true Game of Thrones fan would adore Berserk’s interpretation of creatures, gloomy environment, and intense battle scenes.

2. Record of Grandcrest War (2018)

The Record of Grancrest War would be the ideal account to showcase Ned Stark’s moral character and commitment to upholding justice. The fictional nation of Atlantan, like the Seven Kingdoms in Game of Thrones, has been afflicted by a few powerful “lords” whose duty it was to keep the populace safe from Chaos. These lords engaged in a civil war to establish total dominance rather than protecting their subjects.

A long wizard and a knight-in-training who meet during these difficult times decide to work together to use their respective powers to free their kingdom from the grip of war. Fans of Game of Thrones will be reminded of these crimes by the plot of Record of Grancrest War and how Dany tried to stop the “wheel” of injustice by the great Houses of the Seven Kingdoms.

1. Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam (1985)

Zeta Gundam may be a legendary mecha anime, but Game of Thrones can be drawn from its plot and character development. Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam does a superb job of delving into the political mess that is the core of Game of Thrones. The tragic deaths are where the fans see the most similarities. Almost all of the characters in Mobile Suit were mercilessly killed off, following the trend initiated by Game of Thrones, which killed off its primary characters without warning.

The political conflict and struggle against a corrupt administration are the show’s highlights, but what the audience won’t expect is how much the characters resemble one another. For example, Char Aznable, who is the true claimant to the Zeon Legacy but has been stripped of his identity, plays a role comparable to that of Jon Snow.
